On most summer weekends, you can catch me, Joshua, and Pen at the lake. We're lucky to have some awesome cousins on both sides of our family, that let us come and go. On such days, I wear sunscreen. Yep, that's it. No silly mascara, no brows. It's refreshing really, and oh so good for the old epidermis.

There's typically lots going on in the summer. Between parties, cookouts, and festivals, you most definitely get your sweat on. Today, Stephanie and I wanted to talk about the products we love for those summer get togethers where just sunscreen, isn't quite cutting it.

After I've cleansed and used an spf moisturizer for the day, I spritz on a bit of Pixi's hydrating milky mist. I swear by this stuff as a primer. Stephanie convinced me that primers were more so hype and less effective than we tend to believe. I mean, she's the professional, so who was I to argue. I'm hear to tell you, home girl was right. Not only am I breaking out less, I'm caking up less. The hydrating milky mist just gives me skin some added moisture to prevent those flakes my combo skin can get from time to time.

I'm no professional makeup artist, and I tend to make a mess when I apply eyeshadow. So I always do my eyes first, while allowing my moisturizer and the hydrating mist to soak into my skin. When I'm doing makeup for a hot day, I try to keep it simple and sick to one or two shades. I love Makeup Geek Creme Brulee for just a basic all over the lid color. When I want something a little extra, I go in with Makeup Geek Cinderella. It's a beautiful shimmery pink, which happens to be my favorite eye color. When it's hot, I skip the liner all together. I don't need raccoon eyes and it melting into my eyes all day long. I've been on the hunt for a new perfect mascara, and I can't quite say this one is it, but it does hold up better than anything I currently have in this heat!

After everything is nice and soaked into the skin, I use a damp Real Techniques sponge and add a layer of the L'Oreal Lumi Cushion foundation. Let me tell you, I LOVE this stuff. I won't say it lasts through the heat, but as it wears down, it does so beautifully. You wont look like a splotchy, cakey monster! I set it with Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Talc- free powder. Lastly, with a light hand, I dust a bit of the Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer in light around the outsides of my face, and in a triangle down my forehead. I use it very sparely, so it doesn't pick up the best on camera, but in person, it gives a lovely sun kissed look that I so obviously lack.

(Totally left out my brows, but it's the same everyday NYX Automatic Eyebrow pencil in Taupe)

If I'm not going to be in direct sunlight, I keep my lips coated in some sort of lip balm. I really like the Burt's Bees Mint Coco lip balm, but it does not contain an spf. Not pictured above, because it was in the diaper bag, is my typical weekend lip balm, Hawaiian Tropic SPF 45. It's water proof, sweat proof, and wears for hours! I use this one myself, and Penelope.

What do you wear when you need a little something in the summer?
