ZOO-kendingMay 26, 2015
Let's just talk about how it's already Tuesday and I only have to work three more days this week. For real, you never realize how amazing three day weekends are until you're old. But enough of that, let's chat about how great three day weekends really are.
For starters mine was hands down awesome. I've been stressed lately, just a lot of little things, but none the less stressed. The holiday weekend was just what I needed to cheer me up and make me thankful for all the blessings I have. What better way to spend a gorgeous Saturday than at the zoo?!
The Akron zoo, is a whopping twenty minutes from where we live. Compared to the Cleveland zoo, it's extremely small, but that doesn't make it any less fun. In fact, I have a better time at the Akron zoo. The quality of the exhibits, health of the animals, I could go on and on.
This zoo is far smaller than the Cleveland zoo, it's perfect for a family with small children. The day we visited the Cleveland zoo, we walked 5 miles (according to Fitbit). Five miles for a one year old, that's a lot of zoo. Akron is short and sweet without being boring. The exhibits are maintained, and constructed to not only care for the animal, but appeal to the eye. Perhaps my photos can do the talking.
yes, I love photographing birds
One of the Akron zoo's newest attractions is a large tree house inspired aviary that houses species of Ohio birds. To some this is sort of lame, but Ohio does have some beautiful birds. Like this common grackle, who was too stubborn to look at me.
Penny enjoyed crossing the bridge in the aviary tree house, with the help of daddy of course. The aviary is just one of the awesome attractions this zoo offers. Have you ever slid down a slide that runs through an otter exhibit? We have.
she loves to smell flowers
During the summer months, the Akron zoo has a beautiful botanical garden. Since we are a bit early for the floral frenzy, we were able to see a few iris, lilies, and even a few peonies.
Places make memories, but so do the people you share them with. We went with my parents and younger brother. The afternoon was full of jokes, smiles, and time well spent. Life can be down right annoying sometimes. There are days I just want to snuggle up and stay in bed all day. Enjoying the fresh air, sunshine, with a few of our favorite people really kicked me out of a slump. I am beyond blessed to share my life with these amazing folks, and Penny is so blessed to have such a huge, loving family.
