Thrifty Thursday: DIY Coffee & Tea Bar

January 15, 2015

After seeing coffee bars flood my Pinterest feed, I decided to create one that fit my particular needs. As an avid coffee and tea drinker, I knew the space had to be cute and functional. This space is still very much a work in progress, but for now, I'm loving having everything I need at my fingertips.

I love Keurig; I just drink way too much coffee for one to be practical. Instead I love this Mr. Coffee programmable 12 cup coffee pot. Just set a time to brew and when you wake up you'll have a fresh, hot pot of coffee. Another feature I'm in love with, is that it beeps when it's finished brewing. "Is it done yet? What about now?"

Every coffee bar needs a cute tray. While this tray is far from where I'd like it, it works as a for now coffee pot holder. My best friend, Abigail, found this tray over the summer while thrifting. Refinishing it has been on my "to do" list for quite some time.

I keep my coffee in this large glass jar, which I believe is from Walmart? It's so old I really have no idea. Need ideas for that empty tin or plastic coffee can?

Dont throw out that old coffee container! Up-Cycle it!

Can you spot a up-cycle? Yep, we keep the coffee filters in an old BBW candle jar. I seriously have these everywhere in our apartment. They are the easiest thing to up-cycle!

My favorite Candle up-cycle ideas!

As much as I love a good ole cup of Joe, I'm very much a tea drinker. My favorites are Twinings of London and Yogi brand teas. This canister is actually from Target and was only $3! It works perfectly to keep all my little tea bags together.

My mug tree is my pride and joy. I sort of have a thing for mugs.  I'm drawn to super cute, unique styles. Joshua purchased this for me two Christmas' ago from World Market. It's actually a drying rack, but he knew a standard holds 4-6 mugs tree wasn't my cup of tea. Pun intended.

Mugs are from: Target, World Market, Amazon, and our travels.

So that's what I have at the moment. The Family sign was a gift, and the flowers and vase are from a long-ago thrift. They've actually been making their way all over the apartment, but I think they've finally found their permanent home.  I'm so interested to know if anyone else has a coffee or tea bar set up. What are your essentials? What makes a good coffee/ tea bar functional for you?

  1. I LOOOOOVE that you up cycled a B&BW candle jar as your filter holder. I mean, HOW adorable is that!?! I love this. I too, have found a recent uproar in coffee/tea bars. I've had one set up for the longest time, but feel like it now needs to be a little cuter and more fun for me to use. Thank you also for the addition up cycling link ideas. I really love being able to up cycle wherever possible.
Maybe I'll update and share my coffee & tea bar situation. You've greatly inspired me to work on it!

    1. Last time I was there, World Market still had it. It's actually sold as a "drying rack," but totally works as a holder. (:

  14. I love my little coffee/tea bar at home. My goal is buy a small island and set up shop in my kitchen to clear off counter space. With all my tea and coffee flavors, my k-cups, and tea gadgets, our small bar/counter has been over-run and is beginning to look cluttered.

    1. I had a friend that had her's on an empty wall of her kitchen. She bought a longish table and had everything displayed. It was just too just. I'm all for the island idea. This takes up a bit of space, but it works for now. Everything has a place. (:

  15. This is such a cute setup Kiki! I always feel like my own set up (tea, hot chocolate, coffee) is very cluttered! Will take note (:
