Mommy Monday: Christmas? ALREADY?!November 10, 2014
Call it excited, or just plain nuts, but we have already started decorating for Christmas. Yes, you heard me correctly. We're really only putting things up little by little. We want a real tree, so of course that hasn't been purchased yet, but small things are up and running.
Over the weekend we headed back to Hartville. Along with having a fabulous farmers and flea market, they have a huge Amish style restaurant at the edge of their property. We love eating there for a hearty, home cooked meal. The atmosphere is country and cozy, plus there are tons of shops to browse after you eat.
One of the shops is a gigantic Christmas store. Two weeks ago when we visited, we received an ad which kids could come get their photo taken with the Grinch. For FREE. If you don't have kids, let me just tell you a quick story. Around Easter, we paid $40 at the mall for a 5 x 7 of Penny sitting on the Easter bunny's lap. Not only was the photo horrible quality, it was printed on this thin, cheap photo paper that probably cost fifty cents at Staples. Not to mention "Mr. Bunny" looked like he'd be maimed and stuffed in a closet all year. I was irritated and just dealt with it because after all, they are "memories." Yea, $40 memories...
To avoid the high blood pressure that mall characters bring me, we drove the measly 20 minutes to Hartville to get her photo with the Grinch. There was no line, free cookies, and free cider. The angels in my head were singing. After the quick snap shot for memories sake, we browsed the store a bit and even wound up leaving with a few people checked off our Christmas list. I didn't quite get the "lazy Saturday" I was hoping for, but I did enjoy seeing my little one all dressed up on the Grinch's lap.
Joshua surprised me Friday night with this adorable little dress he picked up at Target. People all around us Saturday were going gaga with how cute she looked.
This Grinch photo has been on my desk all day at work. No matter the conversation, I've managed to coax everyone that steps foot into my office to look at it. I've become that mom.
Has Christmas some how already creeped it's way into your home?
Any fellow mommies outraged by the price of mall Santas?
