Mommy Monday: Bedtime Songs

November 17, 2014

I've loved Mary Poppins since I was too young to understand it. It's such a magical movie full of hidden meaning a the most beautiful quotes. Not to mention Julie Andrews is one of the most beautiful women, like ever.

Stay Awake, from the movie Mary Poppins, was always a favorite of mine. Perhaps it's the beautiful voice of Julie Andrews, but I just feel something wonderful when I hear that song.

As children, my mother used to sing to us a lot. I grew up in a very musical family. Through voice or instrument, there was always some sort of song running through my mind. So naturally singing to Penelope as we go about our nightly routine is a must.

I'm clearly no Julie Andrews, but I think just listening to the sound of my voice and looking into my eyes, is all that matters. Our connection grows stronger each and every day and I couldn't be happier with my life as a mother. It's truly the most amazing ride.

Music is something important to me, and it's important that my daughter grow up with it. She already "dances" when certain toys play music, something she learned to do completely on her own. In what ways is music special to you?

Though some of you haven't ventured into the parenthood chapter of your life yet, I'm still curious to know about your own experiences with lullabys. What were your favorites? Who sang them to you?

If you do have children, what lullabys do you sing them?

"For in dreams we enter a world that is entirely our own. Let them swim in the deepest ocean or glide over the highest cloud."

Have a Happy Monday!

  1. This is so, so sweet. My mom sang to me when I was growing up and also taught me all kinds of songs! It's so funny because I think I'm musically-inclined due to her teaching me to sing at a young age, but she's actually completely tone-deaf! And I love that photo of your daughter, it melts my heart!

  2. This is so sweet. I have to admit, my knowledge of lullabies is like, horrible! I usually just end up singing whatever love song I can think of at the moment. She does know a few really old family lullabies in spanish that she loves, so I try to sing those to her a lot so maybe (hopefully) she'll remember them.

And I just wanted to say thanks for following my blog! You are my one and only follower at the moment so that means a lot to me! I'm still trying to figure out how all of this blogging stuff works but I was able to follow you on instagram :)

I hope you had a great weekend

    1. Thank you Lauren! I think it is fantastic that you sing to your little one in Spanish. Being a bit bilingual is such a blessing and I wish I had that sort of opportunity as a child. Blogging, like most things, is all about trial and error. Once you develop your audience it will be a smooth ride for you. Just remember to always blog for yourself. (:

  6. I love music, but I really hate singing! I get so embarrassed. Since I don't have children, I have no idea what I would do, but I do love to sing to the children I am lucky enough to babysit! :)

    1. My best advice to a nice blog is to keep things simple. Such as your colors and fonts. Make everything accessible and just be your self. I express myself best through the photos I take. I use my Fuji camera, or just my cell phone. But most importantly, I am writing for myself and real things that are going on in my every day life. What you see is what you get here. (:

    1. It's not like most Disney movies that little girls beg to watch over and over again. It's more classy, and reminds you of older, greater times when the world was simple. Plus I love Julie Andrews. (:
